Teen Dies in Crash

A fifteen year old boy has lost his life after the vehicle he was travelling in collided with another at the corners of Hendrick Potgieter and Constantia Boulevard in Roodepoort. To ER24 paramedics on the scene, it seemed that both of the vehicles had crossed the two-way stop intersection at the same time, and the impact had occurred at a considerable speed.

After the Toyota RunX and Hilux had collided, the RunX landed up on the other side of the road, almost up the embankment, having been pushed approximately five to ten meters, coming to rest with the nose facing up the hill. The fifteen year old boy who had sustained fatal injuries was still inside. Five young boys were in the car in total, along with the woman driver. One of the younger boys who appeared to be about ten years old was in a critical condition with a possible head injury and internal injuries, and was treated by an Advanced Life Support paramedic who stabilised him on scene before transporting him to hospital. The boy who was sitting in the front passenger seat was found outside of the vehicle lying on the floor, complaining of severe back pain, while a second young boy was also outside of the vehicle having suffered minor injuries.

The driver of the Hilux chose not to go to hospital.

All six patients were transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

It is unclear as to whether the woman driving the RunX was related to the boy who was deceased or any of the other children.

Police will need to initiate the investigation into the cause of the accident.
