One person is dead and another four people have sustained serious injuries after the bakkie they were travelling in overturned on North Coast Road near Effingham road this afternoon.
Emergency personnel arrived on the scene to find the bakkie lying on its roof and with two of the occupants still inside the cabin entrapped. One of the occupants inside the cabin was already deceased by the time emergency personnel had arrived. The patient inside the cabin had suffered serious injuries and needed advanced life support intervention. Three other occupants that were found in the back of the bakkie had also suffered possible neck and back injuries. All four occupants were stabilised and transported to various hospitals in the greater Durban area for further medical care.
It is unclear how the driver lost control but it is believed that they were travelling along North Coast road toward Durban, when he lost control crashing into a light pole and an Armco barrier before over turning.
The necessary authorities were on the scene and would be investigating the incident further.
