Taxi Rolls on the N1

The N1 highway had to be closed for an hour due to a taxi accident that had severely affected the fast an middle lane of the carriageway. According to an eyewitness, the taxi seemed to suddenly lose control and rolled.

Patients were found lying in the road when ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene. Fifteen of them sustained moderate injuries, including deep cuts, multiple broken bones and neck and back injuries. A further two patients were treated for critical injuries, and they were both airlifted from the scene via air ambulance. ER24's Discovery Medicopter airlifted a man in his thirties to a provincial hospital in Pretoria. He had sustained a suspected head injury, and needed immediate Advanced Life Support treatment.

One person was found to have passed away after the accident, unfortunately it is unclear whether his family has been notified as of yet.

According to paramedics, the scene attracted dozens of bystanders. As the road was closed, people stepped out of their vehicles to watch as the Medicopters landed on the road and picked up their patients.

Metro Police will investigate the cause of the accident.
