Pedestrian Airlifted After Accident

It seems that the man was trying to cross the road when he was knocked by the truck. The incident occurred on Springbok road, near Kliprivier road between Meyerton and Kliprivier.

The pedestrian collided with the delivery truck from the right hand side, and he was subsequently flung into right hand side of an Audi that was driving on the same road. He came to rest in the middle of the road where ER24 paramedics found him upon their arrival. The Advanced Life Support Paramedic from Vereeniging treated the man for a severe fracture of his left thigh bone as well as a possible break to his hip on the left.

Although the man's injuries are deemed serious, he remained alert and orientated throughout his ordeal. He was given some medication for his pain while they strapped him into a spine board to protect his neck and back and further prevent his leg from movement.

The Metro Police and Fire Services assisted with road closures in order for the ER24 Discovery Medicopter to land. They airlifted the man to a Johannesburg hospital where he will undergo treatment.

Fortunately the driver of the truck and the Audi were not injured in the incident.
