Medicopter Airlifts Accident Victim

Two men have been left with serious injuries after a head on collision occurred on the R25 and Old Pretoria Road, approximately one kilometer before Bapsfontein.

The cause of the collision between the Corsa bakkie and Light Delivery Vehicle is unknown, but both vehicles were severely damaged. The thirty year old man who was driving the bakkie was taken out of the vehicle after the door was pried open. It was mildly jammed due to the impact, but crews were able to safely force it open without the use of Fire and Rescue heavy machinery. It seemed that his chest had collided with the steering wheel, and he was treated for severe head and chest injuries on the scene.

The ER24 Discovery Medicopter was allowed to land on the closed road, and transported him to the Charlotte Maxeke hospital for further treatment.

The driver of the delivery vehicle was treated by ER24 paramedics for a suspected head injury, but he was alert and in a stable condition and was transported by road ambulance to a nearby hospital.

The local Community Forum members, comprising of local farmers and members of the community, assisted EMPD and the Welbekend SAPS with road closures and redirecting traffic. It is always a pleasure to welcome the helping hand of the community.
