JHB East's Incubator Transfer

A premature baby was born at 26 weeks at around 17h10 yesterday afternoon. The baby was taken to the Saint Mary's Mother and Child Hospital in the East Rand of Johannesburg. ER24's East Rand Paramedic was called to transfer the baby to the Tambo Memorial Hospital in Boksburg for further monitoring.

The little boy weighed only 630 grams, and was transported in an incubator, with the intermittant assistance of breathing by the paramedic. He also said that the infant was so small it may have fitted into a Nescafe Coffee jar!

Both mother and child responded well to treatment and are believed to be doing well at Tambo Memorial Hospital.
