Health care worker brutally attacked at home.

A student nurse has been brutally attacked at her home in Oribi Village. It is believed that the 28 year old woman was assaulted by her husband who shot her repeatedly before allegedly fleeing the scene.

ER24 Advanced Life Support paramedics where on the scene within minutes and found the patient in a critical condition lying in a pool of blood on the varanda of her home. The patient appeared to have received three bullet wounds to the head. A forth bullet appeared to have amputated the thumb of her right hand.
Paramedics intubated the patient and took over her breathing by placing her on a ventilator as they tried to stem the bleeding and stabilize her for transport to Pietermaritzburg Medi-Clinic.

It is unclear what motivated the attack but SAPS is investigating the shooting. The patient remains in a critical condition in hospital.

Man Shot After Attempted Assault

A man was shot by his employer at a residential house in Klopperpark in Germiston.

The man, who is in his thirties and was said is the family's gardener, was allegedly threatening to attack the employers wife with a knife and panga when her husband arrived home. It is believed that the couple were then further threatened whereafter the husband shot the employee with a small caliber hand gun.

ER24 paramedics on scene explained that the man had sustained a wound to either side of his head, but was alert and orientated. After assessment his vital signs were also within normal limits. Intermediate Life Support paramedics transported the patient to a nearby hospital where they were met by the Meadowdale SAPS. He was handed over to hospital staff in a stable condition, but further assessment of the wounds, and treatment thereof would be performed in hospital.

Attempted Cash In Transit Heist

An attempted cash in transit heist on the N1 North just after Rivonia was unsuccessful.

The four occupants of the vehicle, their ages ranging in their twenties to fourties, were fortunately uninjured in the incident. One of the occupants explained that they were driving towards the banks from Randburg when a number of vehicles approached the transit van. The then started shooting at the vehicle and forced them to pull over on the side of the highway. An unknown number of suspects approached the vehicle, attempting to force the occupants to open the rear compartment where the money is kept.

The suspects were unable to open the rear door and police had been alerted by the van's escort. As police approached the scene, the suspects fled in a number of vehicles, abandoning one vehicle that was allegedly hijacked last month in another province.

The four occupants were assessed by ER24 paramedics, and were visibly shaken, but they refused transportation to hospital. They will however, receive trauma counseling relating to the incident.

Investigations will be further handled by the SAPS.

Heavy Mist Causes Six Accidents on the R59


Heavy mist was reported this morning on the R59 between Vereeniging and Vaal Park. Six accidents are believed to have taken place, five of them minor bumper bashings with only one patient resulting, and the last one that occurred around 07H30 was severe.

A truck allegedly drove into oncoming traffic colliding head on with a VW Golf travelling in the opposite direction, with it's two male passengers on their way to work. The impact caused the truck to be severely entangled onto the Golf's bonnet, while the momentum of the truck pushed the Golf approximately thirty meters backwards.

When ER24 ambulances arrived on scene the passenger of the Golf was outside of the vehicle being treated by another service, while an ER24 Advanced Life Support paramedic was treating the driver, who is believed to be in his late twenties. He was entrapped in the driver's seat, with the dashboard pressing up against his stomach, and the truck was still ontop of the bonnet. Fire and rescue workers stabilised both vehicles with the help of towing services while paramedics treated the man. He has sustained a broken leg, arm, multiple deep cuts and scrapes, as well as suspected internal injuries and damage to his pelvic area.

It took Fire and Rescue approximately and hour and a half to cut away at both vehicle using the Jaws of Life, finally freeing the man from the wreckage. He was further stabilised by the paramedics, and was transported to a nearby hospital.

The three occupants of the truck sustained no physical injuries.

Both Traffic services and the SAPS were on the scene to take statements.

Man Falls From Truck

A man was seriously injured after falling from the back of a truck at the corners of Frikkie Meyer Boulevard and Hendrik Van Eck Boulevard in Vanderbijlpark.

ER24 crews stabilised the man on the scene before transporting him to Sebokeng Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

It is believed the man was off-loading glass bottles when he slipped and fell. Paramedics suspect the patient sustained a head injury, as well as lacerations from broken bottles.

Freedom Day Lucky Escape

A woman in her late twenty’s has had a narrow escape after her light motor vehicle left the road and crashed into a passing truck on the M7 east bound near Hans Dettam off ramp this afternoon.

ER24 Discovery Medicopter Ground Support Unit arrived on the scene first to find the light motor vehicle on its roof in the centre medium.
Due to the location of the accident on the bend in the road, paramedics first had to secure the scene to ensure the safety of the patient and traffic traveling on the M7.

The patient had been suspended by her safety belt upside down in her car and member of the public had managed to free her and get her out of the vehicle. Paramedics treated the patient for moderate injuries. The driver of the truck escaped without any injuries. The patient was transported to hospital in a stable condition.

It is believed that the woman was about to join the M7 from the Hans Dettam off ramp when she lost control around the corner. RTI were on the scene and would be investigating the accident.

Truck Accident Leaves Four Injured.

One person is in a serious condition while another three people have sustained minor to moderate injuries after a collision involving two trucks on the N2 North Bound near Claire road bridge this morning.

ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene to find an articulated truck up against the concrete barrier with the cabin completely disintegrated. Just a few meters away a second truck was found also in the emergency lane up against the concrete barrier with the front part of the truck damaged. The left hand side of the container and back door were damaged as well.

The driver of the first truck was found lying at the back of the trailer and had suffered possible neck, back and hip injuries. He was placed on a specialised board before been placed into the ambulance. The driver and two occupants of the second truck were found seated on the floor in front of their truck. They had suffered minor injuries. All four patients were transported to EThekwini Hospital for further medical care.

It is unclear who was at fault but the necessary authorities were on the scene and would be investigating the accident. Two lanes were affected due to this accident.

Farm Worker Crushes Foot

A twenty three year old farm worker will likely lose his right foot after an accident on a farm in Bothaville in the Free State.

The young man was allegedly working with a piece of machinery, that extracts peanuts from the ground, when he slipped and got his foot caught in the machines chains. The farmer took him to a nearby clinic where ER24 paramedics met him to transport him to an appropriate medical facility, as the clinic is not equipped with an orthopedic surgeon.

According to the paramedics that transported the man, his foot was severely crushed and deformed just above the ankle, and it is likely that it will have to be amputated.

The man was treated by an Advanced Life Support paramedic for his pain and apparent loss of blood, and was transported to the Welkom Medi Clinic for further appropriate medical management.

Cyclist Deceased After He Was Knocked By A Car

A cyclist was knocked down by a Hyundai light motor vehicle on the corners of College and Hazel streets in Athlone.

The man, who appeared to be in his late seventies, was allegedly crossing the road to make a U-turn when he was hit by the car. He allegedly knocked into the windshield of the car head first.

When ER24 paramedics arrived on scene they assessed the man and found no signs of life. He was declared deceased on the scene. The driver of the vehicle was visibly shaken but physically uninjured.

Family Of Bikers Collide

A father and his twenty two year old daughter on one bike, and his wife on another, were returning from the Harley Davidson Rally in Margate on the weekend. They were travelling on the N3 in Lion's River toward their home in Tabazimbi when roadworks on the highway caused them to collide with each other.

It is believed that the road narrowed suddenly and the other vehicles on the road failed to make way for them to join the traffic when the incident occurred. Both the mother and daughter sustained multiple deep scrapes and bruises, and were complaining of neck pain. The father sustained minor injuries only.

All three patients were transported to a nearby hospital by ER24 paramedics for further assessment and treatment. Both of their motorcycles were severely damage and had to be towed away.

Woman Injured After Vehicle Lands In Tree

A woman in her fifties has sustained serious injuries after a three car collision on Alpine Road near the Shell Garage in Springfield, Durban.

Bystanders explained that after the collision, the woman's light motor vehicle became airborne and landed in a tree. The vehicle was removed from the tree and ER24 paramedics assessed the woman. She had sustained a possible head injury and was complaining of neck and back pain.

She was stabilised on scene and transported to Addington hospital for further medical treatment.

The two drivers of the other vehicles sustained no physical injuries and requested later private transport to hospital if needed.

Eight Year Old Drowns In Bloem

An eight year old boy has drowned in Fichardts Park in Bloemfontein.

He was allegedly playing with his ball when he kicked the ball over the wall into the neighbour's yard. He then climbed over the wall to get his ball when it is believed that he fell into their pool. It is unclear as to how long the child was in the water for before the neighbour's removed him and called ER24 for an ambulance.

When paramedics arrived on the scene, the child had no signs of life, and resuscitation was started.

After desperate attempts on the scene to revive the child were unsuccessful, paramedics loaded the patient into the ambulance and continued resuscitation efforts en route to hospital. At hospital, further attempts provided no results and the child was declared deceased.

The actual cause of this tragic incident will be investigated.

Cyclist Knocked Head On By Bakkie

A group of five to six cyclists were cycling on a pass in a Nature Reserve between Meyerton and Heidelburg when a bakkie drove up the road.

One of the cyclists was knocked head on by the bakkie and allegedly flung over the vehicle landing on the back. They drove toward the gate with the twenty nine year old to where they met ER24 paramedics. They man was in a critical condition, having suffered a possible head injury, internal bleeding and a broken left arm.

After being stabilised by Advanced Life Support paramedics on the scene, the man was flown by the ER24 Discovery Medicopter to a Johannesburg hospital for further management.

The driver of the bakkie sustained no physical injuries.

Durban [Blue Lagoon] on 26 April 2010 at 12h00

A man, believed to be in his forties, nearly drowned at Blue Lagoon after he allegedly slipped off the rocks and fell into the water.

The man was rescued by lifeguards that were on duty. When ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene the patient was being treated by the lifeguards and a paramedic from EMRS for submersion injuries.

The patient was handed over to ER24 crews and was transported to Addington Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Motorcyclist Collides With Pedestrian

A nineteen year old male was left with serious injuries after colliding with a pedestrian at the corners of Christiaan De Wet and Scott street in Randpark Ridge.

As ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene, the pedestrian, an adult male, was being treated for critical injuries by an Advance Life Support Paramedic. He was stabilise on scene before being transported to a local medical facility. The cyclist had sustained a possible head injury, and was bleeding profusely from the nose and a gash on his head. He was also complaining of back and neck pain. His wounds were dressed, and he was transported to hospital for further treatment.

The exact cause of the incident is not known, but a bystander explained that he believed that the robot was green when the motorcyclist entered the intersection where the pedestrian was crossing. The incident will be investigate.

Horse Rider Injured After Horse Collided With Car.

A horse rider is in a serious condition after colliding with a car on the Vereeniging road about 15km outside Potchefstroom this afternoon.

ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene to find a single vehicle and horse in the middle of the road. The rider was found a few meters away from the scene. The rider who was in a serious condition had suffered possible neck injuries and possible fracture to his ankle. The driver and three occupants of the vehicle were treated for minor to moderate injuries. All five occupants were stabilised on the scene and transported to Potchefstroom Hospital for further medical treatment.

It is believed that two horse riders were riding near the road when a cardboard box scared the first horse causing the two horses to canter towards the freeway. The driver was able to get out of the way of the first rider who had a female on it but collided with the second horse. The rider was catapulted into the air with the impact.

The horse had suffered severe traumatic injuries and was allegedly going to be put down by the local authorities.

Collision Leaves Family Injured

A mother and her two children aged one month and five years have been injured in a collision at the intersection of Stanger and Somsute road in the Durban CBD area this afternoon.

Emergency personnel arrived on the scene to find two light motor vehicles had been involved in the collision. ER24 paramedics rushed to the first car to find the mother and her two children injured. The one month old baby was found seated in the back of the car with the five year old. They had suffered minor lacerations and needed specialised equipment to remove them from the vehicle due to the impact. The mother had suffered possible neck and back injuries and needed advanced life support intervention. All three patients were transported by road to EThekwini Hospital for further medical care in a serious but stable condition.

The occupants of the other vehicle were treated by other emergency services on the scene and were transported to a nearby hospital for medical care.

Twins Serious After Collision

Twelve people including one year old twins have been injured after a collision involving a light motor vehicle and a taxi at the corners of Prous and Bosman road in Pretoria this afternoon.

ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene to find the taxi with severe damage to the left hand side of the taxi. All the commuters were already out of the taxi by the time emergency personnel had arrived on the scene. Twin girls aged one had sustained possible head injuries and were in a serious condition. Advanced Life Support intervention had to be performed on the little baby’s. Their mother and father had sustained possible neck and back injuries and were stabilised on the scene by emergency personnel before all four were transported to hospital for further medical care.

The remaining patients were treated for various injuries on the scene and were stabilised on the scene by various emergency personnel on the scene before they were transported to various hospitals for further medical care.

It is unclear who was at fault but the necessary authorities were on the scene and would be investigating the accident. It is believed that the mother was seat in the front of the taxi with one of the baby unrestraint and the father was seat behind them with the second baby before the collision occurred.

Collision Leaves 3yr Critical, Mother & Father Serious.

A 3yr is in a critical condition, while the parents are both in a serious condition after a collision involving two light motor vehicles on the Bonniemile road of Kuilsriver in the early hours of this morning.

ER24 arrived on the scene to find the little child and mother lying in the road, while the father was entrapped behind the steering wheel. The little three year old had suffered a possible head injury and bone fractures. Advanced Life Support intervention was performed on the child before being rushed to Red Cross Children’s Hospital in a critical condition.

The Jaws of Life was used to extricate the father from the vehicle. Both the mother and father had suffered bone fractures and multiple lacerations. They were stabilised on the scene and transported to Tygerberg Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

The second vehicle was further down the road but injuries are unknown to ER24 as it is believed that Metro Ambulance may have dealt with the injured in that car.

All necessary authorities were on the scene and a full investigation would be done into the accident.

Head On Collision Is Fatal For Driver.

What is alleged to be a head on collision this evening between a corsa and a BMW has left one person dead, another two critical and six other in a serious condition. The incident took placed on the Warburg road about 3km just outside Wartburg.

ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene to find both vehicles in the middle of the road. The driver of the corsa who had suffered fatal traumatic injuries and entrapped was declared deceased on arrival of paramedics. The two passengers from the same vehicle were also entrapped and were in a critical condition. The Jaws Of Life had to be used to help extricate the patients from the vehicle. They had suffered severe bone fractures and head injuries. They were transported to Northdale Hospital in a critical condition.

The six occupants of the BMW have suffered possible neck and back injuries and multiple lacerations. They were treated for serious injuries and transported to a nearby hospital for further medical care.

It is unclear who was at fault but all the necessary role players were on the scene and would investigate the accident further.

Car Rolls Injuring Family.

Two people have sustained serious while a two other including a bay have sustained minor to moderate injuries after the car they were travelling in over turned on the N3 Durban bound near Peacevale this afternoon.

Emergency personnel arrived on the scene to find the vehicle lying on its roof in the right hand lane of the freeway resting up against the embankment. All the patients were already out of the vehicle by the time emergency personnel arrived on the scene. Two patients were treated for possible neck and back injuries and for minor lacerations to their heads. The other adult who was holding the baby were examined but neither patients had suffered any visible injuries. All the patients were stabilised on the scene and transported to various hospitals for further medical care.

It is unclear what caused the driver to lose control but is believed that the vehicle may have had mechanical problems before taking the corner. All necessary role players were on the scene and would be investigating the accident.

Accident Leaves Passenger Serious.

A passenger is in a serious condition while the driver sustained minor injuries after a collision on the R603 near Umlass road in the early hours of this morning.

ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene to find a single light motor vehicle involved in the accident. The driver was found walking up the road while the passenger was found slumped half way out the vehicle. The passenger had sustained serious head injury and was in and out of consciousness on the scene. Advanced Life Support intervention was performed on the patient. He was transported to Edendale Hospital where trauma staff were waiting to take over the management of the patient.

The driver was treated by other emergency personnel on the scene for minor injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for further medical care.

It is unclear how the accident occurred as there is only one car involved and there was no sign of any vehicles or areas that were damaged by this motor vehicle.

Collision Leaves One Dead Another One Serious

One person has died and another person has sustained serious injuries after a collision involving a single vehicle on the M19 in the early hours of this morning.

Emergency personnel arrived on the scene to find the vehicle in the road complete damaged. One person was declared deceased on arrival of paramedics. The other patient had sustained serious injuries and advanced life support intervention had to be performed on the man before he was transported to a nearby hospital for further medical care.

It is unclear what happened in the accident but it is believed that the vehicle was travelling along the M19 towards Pinetown when the driver lost control went through the centre medium and rolled onto the M19 Durban bound.

The necessary authorities were on the scene and would be investigating the accident.

Taxi Accident Leaves 17 Injured

There has been a collision on the N2 South bound near the Spaghetti Junction involving a taxi and a bakkie this afternoon.

ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene to find the taxi had be put back on its wheels by passing motorists and the patients were found seated on the painted island of the freeway. The bakkie was found in the emergency lane with the driver and passenger still inside it. Fifteen patients from the taxi have been injured and have been treated for various injuries on the scene. The driver and passenger of the bakkie needed Advanced Life Support intervention before been taken out of the vehicle. All patients have been stabilised and transported to various hospitals in the greater Durban area.

It is unclear who caused the accident but the necessary authorities are on the scene and would investigate the accident.

Driver Entrapped After Bakkie Rolls.

A driver is in a serious condition after a collision between a light motor vehicle and a bakkie took place at the intersection of Eaton and Gale Street in Umbilo this afternoon.

ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene to find the bakkie lying on its roof with the driver inside. The light motor vehicle was found in the intersection near the scene. the driver of the bakkie had sustained serious injuries to his back and needed specialised equipment to get him out of the vehicle. The passenger was treated for minor injuries. All patients were transported to Life Entabeni Hospital for further medical care.

It is unclear who was at fault but the necessary authorities would be investigating the accident.

Pregnant Woman Get Struck By Truck.

A eight month pregnant woman is in a serious condition after been struck down by a passing truck on the N2 and Umgeni off ramp this morning.

ER24 paramedics rushed to the scene to find the woman lying in the road and her legs underneath the truck. She had sustained severe traumatic injuries to her right leg and possible neck and back injuries. Advanced Life Support intervention had to be performed on the patient before she was transported to Addington Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

It is believed that the woman was crossing the road when she missed judge the truck coming off the N2 and was struck by the wheel causing the injuries to her leg. No harm came to the unborn baby.

Nineteen Injured After Taxi Accident.

Five people have sustained serious injuries and another fourteen have sustained minor to moderate injuries after a taxi crashed through a Armco barrier and into a wall of a block of flats this morning in Chesterville.

ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene to find the taxi up against the wall and members of the community gather around the patients. The sliding door had been bent to help get patient out of the taxi. The five patients had sustained serious neck and back injuries and had to be placed on a specialised board before they could be moved to the ambulance. The remaining patients had suffered very minor injuries and were help to the ambulance by emergency personnel. All patients were transported to various hospital in the area for further medical care.

It is believed that the taxi had come down Ridge View road and had mechanical problems and was unable to stop. The taxi went through the intersection crashing into the Armco barrier, threw the fence and stopping into the wall of the block of flats.

Five Car Pile Up Leaves One Dead

Five cars were involved in the collision on the R24 in Edenvale between the Barbara and Edenvale offramps.

A truck, taxi, bakkie, 4x4 and a sedan collided with each other leaving one person with fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead on the scene. Another patient sustained critical injuries, he had multiple fractures to his arm, and had lost movement and sensation in that arm. He was also complaining of pain in his back and neck and was stabilised on scene before being transported to hospital by the ER24 Discovery Medicopter.

A further nine patients sustained minor to moderate injuries including back and neck injuries, and others minor scrapes and bruises. Two children, ages seven months and two years old, are included into the total patients. ER24 paramedics explained that the babies were crying, but after assessment they could find no physical injuries and would be transported to a nearby hospital for further assessment and monitoring. The other seven patients, including the children's' mother were also transported to various hospitals by road ambulances.

The cause of the collision is not known, but the Metro Police were on scene to investigate

Thirteen Year Old Allegedly Assaulted

A thirteen year old girl was found assaulted at the Georginia Train Station on Onslow road.

It is believed that she was on her way home from school, as she was still fully clothed in her school uniform. Her classmates that were with her were left uninjured, but they stated that she was assaulted by unknown suspects.

According to ER24 paramedics on the scene, she has sustained a possible head injury, and was unconscious when they arrived on scene. She was stabilised on scene, and transported via road ambulance to a nearby hospital for evaluation and treatment.

It is still unclear as to who assaulted the girl, or why she was assaulted. It will be the duty of the SAPS to inform her parents of the incident.

Two Children Knocked Down On Pedestrian Crossing

A mother and her two children aged two and four were crossing the road at a pedestrian crossing when they were struck by a bakkie. The family of four are believed to be foreigners, where the father is on an exchange in South Africa teaching English.

The incident occurred on DF Malan Road in Sasolburg, when a bakkie failed to stop at the pedestrian crossing. According to bystanders, the other cars had come to a halt to allow the family to cross, when the bakkie overtook the stationery vehicles crashing into the children.

The two year old was in a pram at the time of the incident, causing the pram to overturn. Fortunately the baby only sustained minor injuries. The four year old girl sustained a possible head injury and a broken leg. She was stabilised on scene by ER24 Advanced Life Support paramedics before she was airlifted by the ER24 Discovery Medicopter to a Johannesburg hospital for further treatment.

Neither the girls' mother, nor the driver of the bakkie sustained any physical injuries. Traffic police, Fire and Rescue, and the Sasolburg SAPS were on scene.

Suspect Shot After Robbery

A gang of robbers allegedly made their way into a business premises on East street in Pietermaritzburg.

When the business' security guards were alerted they disturbed the robbers causing them to flee, they allegedly came away with an undisclosed sum of money. A shoot out ensued, and it is believed that one of the security guards shot a suspect wounding him in one of his hands and hip area.

ER24 paramedics were called to the scene for medical assistance for the suspect. The wounded suspect was arrested and taken to hospital by road ambulance with a police escort. He remained in a stable, although somewhat painful, condition throughout.

The number of suspects that were involved is unknown, but the SAPS Long Street were on the scene.

R80 Pretoria: Two Similar Incidents Fourty Five Minutes Apart


The first accident occurred on the R80 at the Ruth First offramp, where a ten ton truck drove under a passenger bus. The three occupants of the truck, despite the massive amount of damage to their vehicle, allegedly told ER24 paramedics on the scene that they saw the bus coming and lifted their legs, thereby preventing injury to themselves. They later refused transportation to hospital as they did not sustain any physical injury. There was also no report of injury to the occupants of the bus. The traffic police were on scene to take statements and regulate traffic.

The second incident occurred near the Bremmer Bridge also on the R80, in Shoshanguve. A Toyota Avanze allegedly drove underneath a truck. The vehicle was substantially damaged, but the male driver believed to be in his thirties, sustained only minor injuries. He was transported by ER24 road ambulance to a nearby hospital for further treatment. The occupants of the truck were physically uninjured.

Baby And Caretaker Assaulted

A one year old baby and her thirty three year old caretaker were assaulted in a residential home in Robindale.

Both of them sustained wounds to their heads after an unknown number of suspects assaulted them after trying to rob them. They were both transported to respective hospitals in a critical condition.

It is unclear as to how the suspects entered the premises, but the Linden SAPS were on scene and will investigate.

Eleven Injured After Taxis Collide

Two taxis collided on the corners of Beyers Naude and Preller Drive in Northcliff. Eleven patients were injured including four infants under the ages of one years old.

Four patients sustained moderate injuries, while another six sustained only minor injuries, this included three of the infants. Another one of the infants was bleeding from the nose and ears and was transported in a critical condition to a nearby hospital.

Both of the taxis sustained substantial damage, while one overturned and further collided with a tree after impact.

The exact cause of the accident is as yet not known, but both of the drivers sustained no physical injuries and refused transport to hospital.

Horrific Accident Leaves Driver Critical.

A driver is in a critical condition and a mother and child have sustained minor injuries after a horrific accident involving a bakkie and a light motor vehicle at the corners of Chaplin and Pepworth this morning.

ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene to find the two vehicles in the road. A patient was found lying in the middle of the road in a critical condition. The patient had sustained severe traumatic injuries and Advanced Life Support intervention was performed on the patient. The patient was placed on a manual ventilator and transported to Pietermaritzburg Medi-Clinic in a critical condition. The driver and passenger of the of the light motor vehicle were treated by emergency personnel and transported to a nearby hospital for further medical care.

It is unclear how the collision occurred but the impact caused the driver to be ejected from the bakkie and land on the road. The necessary authorities were on the scene and would investigate the accident.

Foreign Citizens Injured in Rovos Rail Train Smash

Scores of people were injured this morning in a horror train accident in Pretoria. Two women died in this accident and at least nine others were critically injured. At least 45 others sustained multiple injuries.

Shortly after 12:00 paramedics from numerous emergency services rushed to the incident on the corners of Bosman Street and Andries in the Pretoria CBD. Paramedics on the scene described it as "chaotic". Paramedics made their way to the train tracks where they found the carriages lying across the railway with people still trapped inside of it.

Some of the people had to be rescued with the jaws of life and other hydraulic equipment. Emergency personnel erected a triage station on the site to quickly determine the patient's injuries and sort them in order to transport them hospital as quickly as possible.

One of the critically injured patients sustained multiple injuries and was airlifted by the ER24 Discovery Medicopter to Eugene Marais hospital for further medical management. She sustained multiple injuries to her lower limbs as well as her upper body.

It is understood from railway officials on the scene that the train was being transferred from its locomotive to an electrical locomotive when it started to roll backwards. However, the exact cause will still be investigated by the railway authorities.

Police rescue dogs were called in to search the carriages to investigate if anyone else were still trapped under the carriages. It is understood that most of the commuters were from USA, NZ, Germany, South Africa and France. Commuters explained that they were travelling from Cape Town to Pretoria Station when the incident occurred.

Garden Worker Thrown From Balcony.

A 26yr old male has sustained serious injuries after been thrown about 6m over a balcony of a residence in Westville this afternoon.

ER24 Discovery Medicopter Ground Support Unit was the first medical team to arrive on the scene. The owner of the house showed paramedics to where the man was. The patient was found lying on his side with a blanket covering him.

The patient was examined by emergency personnel and found that he had sustained a serious fracture to his leg and possible neck and back injuries. Advanced Life Support Intervention had to be performed on the patient while paramedics stabilised his leg and back. The 26yr old was transported to a nearby hospital for further medical care.

It is believed that house had been robbed and the suspects threw the man over the balcony and fell 6m to the ground. The impact broke the man leg, the patient tried to get away but the pain was to severe to move.
The necessary authorities were on the scene and would be investigating the robbery and the incident of the patient being thrown from the balcony.

Collision Leaves Two Serious.

Two people have been seriously injured while another two have sustained minor to moderate injuries after a collision involving two cars on New Greytown road just past Copesville this morning

ER24 arrived on the scene to find two light motor vehicles involved in the collision and both in the middle of the road causing traffic backlog. The driver and passenger of the one vehicle sustained serious neck and back injuries and needed Advanced Life Support intervention before they could be removed from the vehicle. The driver and back passenger of the other vehicle sustained minor abrasions and lacerations. All patients were stabilised by ER24 paramedics before being transported to Northdale and Pietermaritzburg Medi-Clinic for further medical care.
It is believed that the one light motor vehicle had come out of a side road and collided into the side of the other vehicle as it was passing.

Fifteen Year Old Alleged Train Surfer Dies

An alleged train surfer died this morning in Kempton Park. The fifteen year old was flung from a moving train approximately two kilometers from the Van Riebeek Train Station in Kempton Park.

ER24 paramedics were called to the scene and found the teenager with multiple fatal injuries. He sustained a possible head injury, multiple broken bones and severe internal injuries and was pronounced deceased on the scene.

The actual cause of the incident is still unclear, but the Kempton Park SAPS were on scene to take statements for further investigation of the incident. It will be up to them to release the boy's name and to inform the family.

Man Trapped Underground

A man sustained injuries last night when wet cement fell on him whilst he was working underground at a construction site in Rosebank.

Paramedics and rescue services attended the scene shortly after 19:00 where they found the man approximately 75 meters underground in a tunnel.


It is understood that the man was busy performing his tasks when an industrial bucket filled with wet cement opened on top of him. Co-workers explained that the man fell to the ground and complained of severe back pain.

The man could not be removed from the tunnel via the normal lift and had to be treated and stabilised in the tunnel. Rescue personnel from ER24 provided equipment and assisted to stabilise the patient.

A crane was used to lower another industrial bucket into the tunnel in order to hoist the man to the surface. The man was brought to the surface in a stable condition.

An ER24 ambulance was used to transport the injured construction worker to Morningside Medi Clinic.

Woman Found Dead In Train Yard

A woman believed to be in her late twenties, who is a part time employee at a train yard in Springs, was found dead by her colleagues in the yard.

Those that found her explained that she was lying face down with her throat on the last rung of the ladder, and it appeared that she was not breathing. They then turned her on her side and called for an ambulance.

As ER24 East Rand paramedics arrived on the scene, they assessed the woman and found that she had no signs of life. Upon further inspection, they found that she had severe deformity to the back of her neck, which would be an indication of a possible break. It also appeared that she had suffered no other physical injuries and she was declared deceased on the scene.

It is unclear as to whether there was any foul play involved in the woman's death, but the local police department was contacted, and it will be their duty to initiate an investigation.

Police Apprehend Alleged Suspects

ER24 responded to an incident where a member of the public had been shot in the foot around 10h00 this morning.

Upon arrival, the scene on Prince George Road in Brakpan was crawling with police. It was explained that the police had been given an anonymous tip off regarding a possible robbery of one of the local wholesalers.

The unknown number of suspects were apprehended after a shootout ensued. The Benoni SAPS, Flying Squad, and Metro Traffic Police were in attendance, and the road remained closed while investigations were underway.

Person Injured As Informal Settlement Burns.

One person has been injured after trying to put out a fire at a informal settlement in Bellair road this morning.

ER24 Discovery Medicopter flew over the scene and notified the ER24 ground crew and other emergency services of the fire that was taking place. Once paramedics arrived on the scene, they found shacks well alight and community members trying to extinguish the fire. People were also trying to salvage their belongings.

A man who sustained partial burns was treated by emergency personnel before being transported to a nearby hospital in a stable condition for further medical care.
The cause of the fire is still not yet know but the necessary authorities were on the scene and would investigate the incident.

Tanker Explodes After Head On Collision

There was a report of a major incident this morning when a fuel tanker and another truck collided on the N3 westbound just after the Marrianhill Toll Plaza. After the impact of the accident the fuel tanker exploded, igniting the other truck and another vehicle in the vicinity.

The driver of the fuel tanker died in the incident whilst the driver of the other truck was in a critical condition on the scene. He was stabilised by paramedics and flown by helicopter to a nearby Durban hospital. It is still unclear what the involvement of the other vehicles were as the fire and emergency services are still trying to clear the scene.

The ER24 Discovery Medicopter was circling the scene shortly after the accident and whilst delivering updates and traffic alerts to the relevant news authorities also provided updates to the emergency services regarding the incident.


This accident has caused major traffic disturbances along the N3, closing the freeway for westbound traffic. This caused a major backlog of traffic along the N3 as well as the M13 freeway.

It is still unclear what the cause of the accident was but the relevant authorities will be investigating the incident.

Taxi Accident Leaves 13 Injured

Thirteen commuters have been injured after the taxi they were travelling in over turned on Mayors Walk this morning.

ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene to find the taxi lying on its side of the island with all the commuters lying on the grass near the accident. Four patients were treated for neck and back injuries and had to be placed onto specialised equipment before they could be moved to the ambulance. The remaining patients including a six month old baby were treated for minor injuries. They were all stabilise on the scene and transported to various hospitals in the area.

It is believed that the taxi driver lost control while taking the corner. The taxi rolled and collided with the light pole, completely ripping the pole out of the ground. The necessary authorities were on the scene and a full investigation would be done into the accident.

Taxi Crashes Into Back Of Truck.

Six people have been injured after a taxi rear ended the back of a truck on the on ramp to Camperdown from the N3 east bound this evening.

ER24 Advanced Life Support paramedic arrived on the scene to find the taxi had crashed into the back of the truck and the driver of the taxi was entrapped behind the steering wheel. The Jaws Of Life was needed to extricate the driver from the wreckage while Advanced Life Support intervention was been performed. Five other commuters were treated for various other injuries before being transported to Edendale Hospital for further medical care.

It is unclear who was at fault but while paramedics were on the scene, a few community members started to attack the driver of the truck. The driver was able to break away and lock himself back inside his cabin.

Twenty three people have been injured after a collision between a bakkie and a taxi on Edendale road this afternoon.

ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene, to find the taxi facing a railing that goes over a small river and the bakkie was facing oncoming traffic that was heading towards Elandskop. Patients were found strewn across the lane with multiple injuries. One patient was found still in the back of the bakkie with serious pains to her neck and back. All the patients had sustained serious injuries consisting of either broken limbs or severe lacerations to their arms and heads. Patients were stabilised using specialised equipment while Advanced Life Support Intervention was being performed on them.

All patients were stabilised on the scene and taken to various hospitals in the greater Pietermaritzburg area for further medical care.


It is unclear who was at fault as details are rather sketchy but Pietermaritzburg SAPS Collision Unit is on the scene and would be investigating the accident.

Paramedics Take To The Sky's To Rescue Sick Sailor.

Call was received by ER24 for an emergency medivac of a freight liner crew member who had become very ill slipping in and out of consciousness, off the eastern seaboard approximately 60 nautical miles off the the Indian Ocean.

Two paramedics from ER24 Durban were dispatched and had to make there way down to Durban harbour to be air lifted by the Portnet Helicopter. They were to be flown out to the ship which was approximately a half hour flight out and another fourty five minutes flight back to Life Entabeni Hospital.

Upon arrival on the vessel, the ER24 paramedics were met by the Fllipino crew on the vessels helipad. In severly broken English they were briefed that the sailor was having severe difficulty in breathing, was very weak and had a red rash throughout his body. The crews had to carrying the distressed sailor to the helipad because he was so weak.

Upon assessment in the Port Helicopter, medical intervention began almost immediately. The patient was provided with supplemental oxygen, received fluids through IV therapy and was treated using Advanced Life Support intervention.


After the 45 minute flight to Life Entabent Hospital in Durban, the crew and the patient were met by ER24 ground crew and a full medical team from to casualty unit. Treatment was taken over by the hospital team and the patient is due to make a full recovery.

Workers Inhale Toxic Chlorine Gas

Fourteen workers at a meat processing factory in Boksburg suffered respiratory distress when they inhaled a toxic chlorine gas.

A worker was allegedly trying to unblock a drain in the freezer section by pouring chlorine into the blocked drain. The drain remained blocked so they poured a further amount of drain cleaner into the drain. When this still did not unblock the drain, pool acid was poured into the drain. The combination of all three liquids caused a toxic cloud of chlorine gas to be emitted from the drain.

ER24 paramedics were called to the scene when workers started suffering from respiratory distress. Six people needed to be given an inhalant solution via nebuliser, while a further eight received oxygen. They were all transported by ER24 road ambulance to a nearby private hospital.

The appropriate managers were on the scene to sign the paperwork to ensure that all the affected workers were taken to hospital. It will be the responsibility of the factory's safety officer to investigate the incident.

Truck And Bus Collide In Parow

A bus and truck collided in Parow this morning at the corners of Industrial and Ring Roads. The bus allegedly impacted the truck head on.

The three occupants of the tuck sustained minor to moderate injuries while the ten to fifteen occupants of the bus all sustained minor injuries. All of the patients on scene were transported to local hospitals by ER24 medics as well as other emergency service ambulances.

The absolute cause of the incident is unknown, but the local police department, as well as traffic police were on scene to assess.

Collision Leaves Seven Injured.

Two people have sustained serious injuries while another five have sustained minor injuries after a collision involving a taxi, a light motor vehicle and a security bakkie. The incident took place on Vanguard road near the N2 in the direction Cape Town

ER24 arrived on the scene to find the light motor vehicle on its side, while the taxi and bakkie were near the intersection. There was three occupants from the light motor vehicle injured of which two had suffered serious injuries. The third one sustained minor injuries. The two drivers from the bakkie and taxi plus their passengers were treated for minor injuries. All the patients were stabilised on the scene and transported to various hospitals in the area.

It is believed that the light motor vehicle was travelling along the N2 from the Strand and had taken the off ramp when the collision occurred between the three vehicles. The necessary authorities were on the scene and would investigate the accident.

Farmer Attacked near Ventersdorp - Arilifted to Hospital

A 50 year old man is in a serious condition after he was allegedly attacked on his farm this morning near Ventersdorp.

ER24's Emergency Contact Centre received an emergency call this morning shortly after 05:00 for a farmer that sustained multiple injuries.

When paramedics arrived arrived on the farm they found the elderly man with multiple stab wounds to his leg and and a serious fracture of his upper leg. He was also treated multiple other bruises.

It is understood that the man heard a noise outside his house when his dogs started barking. It was explained that when he tried to investigate, a group of unknown suspects overpowered him and allegedly assaulted him.

According to bystanders on the scene the man's wife and his two daughters hid away in a nearby room. Paramedics assessed both of them and found that they were only in shock and sustained no visible injuries.

The man was airlifted by the ER24 Discovery Medicopter in a serious but stable condition to a Johannesburg Hospital for further medical management.

The local police attended the scene.

Policeman Critical After Shooting.

A policeman who is believed to be in thirty’s was shot and sustained a critical gunshot wound to his right leg. His fellow officers rushed him off to the nearby clinic in Inanda C Section to try and render emergency care.

ER24 responded to the call of the wounded officer and found him in the clinic with a gunshot wound to his right leg. The officer had lost a lot of blood and was going into shock. Advanced Life Support Intervention was performed on the patient before being rushed to EThekwini Hospital in a critical but stable condition.

It is believed that the SAPS were looking for suspects in the area when a shootout took place. The officer was struck in the leg which could have been fatal if it was not for the quick thinking of his fellow colleges.

Men Serious After Been Burnt

Three men have sustained severe burns after trying to fix or start a generator on a plot in the Lockvall area of Vanderbiljpark.

ER24 along with other emergency services arrived on the scene and were taken to the area where the men were found. Two men, one age fifteen and the second age twenty five was found outside the farm house. A third was man was found inside the house which the provincial services was dealing with.

The two men outside had sustained 25% severe burns to their legs and arms. Special burns packs were placed on the men to try and help with the pain. The third man had sustained about 50% burns throughout his body and Advanced Life Support Intervention was performed. All three men were transported to a nearby hospital for further medical care.

It is believed that the three men were either fix or trying to start a generator and they were working with petrol. In the mix up it is alleged that someone struck a match causing the three men to catch on fire. No one else was injured in the incident.

Employee’s Tied Up, Business Robbed.

Twelve employee’s from a business in the Tunster Business Park have sustained minor injuries after been tied up by suspect and the business was robbed this afternoon.

ER24 were called to the offices where the employee’s were found by the local SAPS. Paramedics examined the patients and found that they had only suffered very minor injuries. Three patients were taken to hospital for a further medical checkup. The remaining nine stayed behind and were given counseling by local counselors of the SAPS.

It is believed that the incident took place just after 10am this morning when suspects entered the offices and tied up the employee’s. It is unclear with what or how much goods were stolen but the SAPS were on the scene and would investigate the robbery.

Drivers Arm Sustains Traumatic Injuries.

A 52yr old man has sustained serious injuries after a passing vehicle side swiped the driver’s door as the man was about to climb out. This incident took place on Victoria road near Chapel street of the busy Pietermaritzburg CBD area this afternoon.

ER24 paramedics from Pietermaritzburg arrived on the scene to find the stationary car’s door ripped open like a tin can. The driver was found seated on the pavement with blood pouring from his right arm. He had suffered severe traumatic injuries to his right arm and possible amputations to two of his fingers. Advanced Life Support Intervention was performed on the man before being rushed to Greys Hospital.

It is believed that the man was about to climb out of his vehicle when a passing motor vehicle side swiped his door as he had opened it. The impact caused the door to rip open taking his arm with him.
The local authorities were on the scene and would investigate further.

Pedestrian Serious After Accident.

A 35yr old man is in a serious condition after been struck by a motorcyclist at the corners of William Nicole and Broadacres road this afternoon.

An Advanced Life Support paramedic from Life Four Ways arrived on the scene to find the man in the road and in a very serious condition. The patient had suffered severe lower limb fractures and had no pulses to his foot. The paramedic contacted ER24 national contact number 084 124 requesting for the Discovery Medicopter to medivac the patient due to the severity of his injuries.

While the Discovery Medicopter was mobile to the scene, Advanced Life Support Intervention was been performed on the patient. The patient was stabilised and transferred into the Discovery Medicopter, which flew the patient to Johannesburg General Hospital for further medical care.

The motor cyclist was been treated by other emergency services on the scene.
The authorities were on the scene and would investigate the accident between the pedestrian and the motor cyclist

4yr Dies After Been Struck By Car.

A 4yr old child has been killed after been struck by a light motor vehicle on Koeberg road this afternoon.

ER24 arrived on the scene to find the child lying in the road and unresponsive. Emergency personnel noticed that the child had suffered severe traumatic injuries. Unfortunately there was nothing paramedics could do to save her life and she was declared deceased on the scene.

The driver of the light motor vehicle had not sustained any injuries from the accident.

It is believed that the little girl had run into the road while the car was approaching from the other side. While emergency personnel were on the scene the family had started to arrive and you could feel the tension over the death of this little girl.
The necessary authorities were on the scene and a full investigation into this accident would be done

Taxi and SUV Collided Into Wall.

Three people have sustained serious injuries and another five have sustained minor to moderate injuries after a collision at the intersection of Luiperd and Market street in Krugersdorp involving a VW Sprinter taxi and a Toyota Rav4 this morning.

ER24 and the Fire Department arrived on the scene to find the Rav4 between a wall and the taxi near the intersection. There were eighteen people in the taxi including the driver and just one person in the SUV. Of the eighteen only seven people were injured from the taxi.

Two passengers and the driver of the SUV were treated for possible neck and back injuries. They were stabilised by using specialised equipment to help protect their back and head. The remaining patients were treated for very minor abrasions to their legs. All patients were stabilised and transported by road to various hospitals in the area.

The necessary authorities were on the scene and would investigate into the accident to see who was at fault.

Car Crashes Into Accident Scene

Paramedics were called out to a t-bone collision on the corners of Old Main Road and Stapelton Road in Pinetown. The accident scene appeared to be quite a serious one, with a passenger entrapped in the vehicle that was t-boned.

ER24 paramedics assessed the scene, and determined that all patients were stable, and had sustained minor to moderate injuries. The man that was still in the vehicle was waiting for assistance to get out.

As the services were performing their various duties, they heard a screetching of tires. When they looked up they saw a vehicle coming straight for the scene. The vehicle then crashed into the stationery Provincial Ambulance Service's ambulance before speeding off. Fortunately there were no occupants or patients in the ambulance at the time.

The local police department immediately started pursuit of the vehicle, and at this point it is undetermined whether the guilty party was found.

All patients from the original scene were mobilised to various hospitals.

Woman In Critical Condition After Being Knocked By Motorcyclist

A twenty year old woman is in a critical condition after she was walking on Main road in Dieprivier and was knocked down by a motorcyclist.

She sustained critical injuries including a possible skull fracture, head injury, and breastbone fracture. When ER24 paramedics arrived there was immediate Advanced Life Support intervention to stabilise the woman.

She was transported to the Vincent Palotti hospital for further treatment.

The biker was physically uninjured after the incident.

Yet Another Fatal Pedestrian Accident

ER24 paramedics were called to yet another pedestrian accident in Durban. On arrival they found what seemed to be man in his thirties with severe and multiple fatal injuries. His badly mangled body was determined to have no signs of life and he was declared deceased on scene.

The vehicle that allegedly had knocked the man had fled the scene after the incident.

Edendale SAPS will be controlling the investigation.

Man Found Robbed And Killed

A distress call was placed from a suspected resident of Bilsey, that a man in critical condition was lying on Haynes road.

When ER24 paramedics arrived, they found the man to be in a critical condition, and performed vital Advanced Life Support skills on the man. It appeared that the man, who is believed to be in his fourties, was robbed and stabbed.

Despite all attempts at resuscitation, the man was declared deceased on the scene. He had sustained two puncture wounds to his upper body.

It is as yet unclear as to where the man is from, and what exacly occurred, but the Alexandra SAPS were in attendance.

Pedestrian Dies in Durban

A man believe to be in his twenties was killed on Francois Road in Mayville, near Bellair Road this evening.

He was allegedly walking on the road when a Land Rover knocked him, causing him to sustain multiple fatal injuries. The man was found in the road by ER24 paramedics, and as his body was badly mutilated he was declared dead on the scene.

The three occupants of the Land Rover did not sustain any physical injuries.

SAPS Umbilo were on scene.

Pietermaritzburg ( Greytown ) R74 Direction Greytown

A motor cyclist to be in his late thirty’s is a critical condition after losing control his bike and crashing into a Armco barrier on the R74 heading towards Greytown this morning.

ER24’s Advanced Life Support paramedic who was off duty at the time, witnessed the accident. The paramedic found the patient down an 30m embankment wrapped around a tree. The tree saved the man from going even further down a cliff face.

The patient had sustained multiple fractures and lacerations throughout his body. The paramedic contacted ER24 national contact number 084 124, and informed them that he had a critical patient and needed the patient to be airlifted to hospital. The Red Cross Air Mercy Helicopter was called to assist with this patient. Once the helicopter had landed the patient was stabilised further by means of Advanced Life Support intervention.

Specialised equipment was used to carry the man up the embankment onto the road side. The patient was then placed into the AMS helicopter and flown to Life Entabeni Hospital where the specialised trauma staff were waiting to take over medical care.
It is believed that the motor cyclist was on his way to the annual Mighty Men’s Conference being held in Greytown, when he lost control of the bike around the corner. No one else was injured in this accident.

Pietermaritzburg ( Scottsville ) Market road near Golden Horse Casino

A 53yr old man is in a critical condition after been shot and robbed before he could pay his staff on Market road near Golden Horse Casino this morning.

ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene to find the man lying on the floor in a pool of blood and fellow workers trying to help by applying basic first aid. The patient had sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his body and was in a critical condition. Advanced Life Support intervention was performed on the man before being rushed to Pietermaritzburg Medi-Clinic in a critical condition.

It is believed that the patient was about to do payment to his staff when he was approached by the suspects. He was then shot multiple times and the suspects fled off with a undisclosed amount of money.

The necessary authorities were on the scene and would be investigating the shooting.

Six Year Old Flown to Sunninghill After Collision In Knoppieslaagte


A collision occurred in the late afternoon between a single cab bakkie and Iveco transporter in Knoppieslaagte near Diepsloot yesterday.

A six year old obtained what appeared to be severe injuries as she hit her head on the front windshield. When paramedics arrived on the scene they found the child who was very distressed, and she was bleeding from a large cut below her mouth. Her mother who was the driver of the vehicle, sustained a dislocated knee.

The child was airlifted by the Discovery Medicopter to the Sunninghill hospital where she was reported to be in a stable condition.

The driver of the transporter was taken by road ambulance to Sunninghill with a suspected dislocated left shoulder.

Twenty Three Injured After Bakkie Rolls

An accident occurred on the N14 at the N1 leaving twenty three people injured.

A Hyundai Light Duty Vehicle allegedly had a tire blow-out causing it to roll. The twenty three occupants, some of which were in the back inside the closed canopy, sustained moderate to minor injuries.

ER24 paramedics arrived on scene to find all of the patients outside of the vehicle, some of them had been ejected, as the canopy came off just before the vehicle came to a rest.

The patients were all stabilised on scene before being transported by various emergency services to local provincial hospitals.

No other vehicles were reported to be involved in the accident.

Traffic was severely affected on the south bound carriageway as the right hand lane had been closed while paramedics were attending to patients.

Durban ( Pinetown ) Crompton Street near Halifax.

A driver working for the municipality of Pinetown has been injured after municipal workers stoned the vehicle as he was driving back to the depot this morning.

ER24 paramedics rushed to the scene to find the bakkie had gone through a fence and had crashed into a garage of a residence property. The driver was found walking around on scene, with blood pouring from his face. The patient was seated on the floor near the vehicle and was treated for a deep laceration to his face and possible neck and back injuries. Patient was given fluids through a drip due to the blood loss that he had sustained. The patient was transported to Life Entabeni Hospital for further medical care.

It is believed that the driver who works for the water department was stoned by municipal workers that are striking. He was stationary at the robot when the mob started to throw stone and rocks. One of the rock broke through the window and struck the man in the face. The driver who feared for his life speeded away but lost control and crashed into the fence of a residence property.

All necessary authorities were on the scene and would investigate the incident.

Woman In Critical Condition After Construction Truck Collison


A twenty three year old woman is in a critical condition after being t-boned by a construction truck in Roodepoort.

The incident occurred at the onramp to the N1 South at Gordon road. It is believed that both vehicles may have been trying to get onto the N1 highway when the collision occurred.

The Opel Corsa that the woman was driving was severely damaged, and the woman was entrapped with critical injuries inside the vehicle. When ER24 paramedics arrived on scene they immediately had to perform Advanced Life Support skills on the woman to stabilise her condition.

Fire and Rescue workers had to use the Jaws of Life to cut away at the rear of the vehicle, and the seats, in order to remove her from the vehicle because the truck has so severely entangled in the wreckage. Once the patient was removed, she was transported by road ambulance to a nearby hospital where she was handed over in a critical but stable condition.

The driver of the truck reported no injuries on scene.

Cape Town ( CBD ) Darling road.

A worker in his late twenty’s has been injured after twelve sheets of timber wood fell onto his chest in Darling road of Cape Town CBD region.

ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene to find the worker lying on the pavement and in serious pain. Paramedics assessed the patient to find that he may have suffered possible chest and pelvis injuries. Advanced Life Support intervention was performed on the patient and was transported to hospital for further medical treatment.

It is believed that workers were dropping off the sheets of timber when the twelve sheets fell off and pinned the man to the pavement. His fellow workers took the sheets off him before emergency personnel arrived on the scene.

Durban ( Pinetown ) M13 West Bound Fields Hill.

Two drivers have been treated for serious injuries after a head on collision on the M13 Fields Hill going towards Kloof this morning.

Emergency personnel arrived on the scene to find two light motor vehicles involved in a collision in the right hand lane of the freeway. A elderly gentleman who was driving the one car was found seated in the driver’s seat, he had suffered severe chest and possible neck and back injuries. Advanced Life Support Intervention was performed on the patient before being transported to Life Crompton Hospital for further medical care.

The second driver was found walking around on the scene but had suffered lacerations to his arms and was complaining of neck pains. Paramedics help support the man’s back before been placed onto a trauma board and mobilised through to hospital.

It is believed that the elderly man had just come off Pioneer road from Kloof and joined the M13 in the opposite direction of traffic. The incident took place on the right hand lane of the freeway.

All necessary authorities were on the scene and would investigate the accident further.

Cape Town ( Pinelands ) N2 opposite the Cooling Towers.

A collision between a taxi and two light motor vehicles has left two people in a serious condition and another six with minor to moderate injuries.

ER24 paramedics rushed to the N2 direction Cape Town near the cooling towers to find a taxi and two light motor vehicles in the left hand lane of the freeway up against the Armco barrier. Two people who had sustained possible head and neck injuries were stabilised using specialised equipment, the remaining six patients were treated for minor lacerations and abrasions. They were all stabilised on the scene and transported to hospital for further medical care.

The cause of the accident is unclear but the necessary authorities were on the scene and would investigate the accident further.

Man's Hands Almost Amputated

A worker at a steel pressing company in Vereeniging was working at a metal punch press machine when his hands were caught in the press.

The fourty-five year old man sustained severe damage to his hands starting at the wrists, which were partially amputated. He also had multiple broken bones and skin loss to both of his hands. ER24 paramedics stabilised the man on the scene before transporting him to the Helicopter Landing Zone at the Vereeniging Medi-Clinic. They had been in communication with the Discovery Medicopter en route to prepare transportation via air ambulance to Milpark hospital.

The man was airlifted and transported to Milpark hospital in a critical but stable condition for further medical management.

It will be the task of the factory Safety Officer to initiate investigation into the accident
