Explosion Leaves Man in Critical Condition

A middle aged man was critically injured after working on a gas tanker at a factory in the Vaal Triangle. He was allegedly standing ontop of the tanker when the octance gas ignited and caused the port ontop of the tanker to shoot off. The lid that closes the port is shaped like a metal disk, and the explosion caused the disk to propell towards the man with incredible force.

The metal disk connected with his body at the level of his chest, causing serious injury. ER24 paramedics responded to the scene to find the man being treated by the factory standby paramedics, but he was in critical condition. They worked together to try and stabilise the man, and called for the ER24 Discovery Medicopter for assistance.

Chopper 1 airlifted the man to a Johannesburg hospital where the Trauma staff continued their efforts at stabilising the man. Upon further assessment he was found to have sustained multiple critical injuries, including multiple fractured ribs, broken right hip, broken collar bone, blood in his abdomen and a possible head injury.
