ER24 paramedics were called to the scene of an accident in Douglas street, approximately sixty kilometres outside of Kimberley. They arrived on scene to find tar gravel stones covering the road, and the three occupants of the truck standing around with a look of disbelief on their faces.
As paramedics assessed the three for their injuries, they pointed to where the truck lay, saying that there had been a fourth. It seems that one of the workers had been flung out of the truck as it had overturned, and it had landed on top of him. He was barely visible, with only a part of his one leg showing from underneath the truck. It was absolutely impossible for the paramedics to move the truck to fully get to him. He was declared deceased, and Fire and Rescue workers now had the difficult task of stabilising the truck to move it in order to remove the man's body.
The three other workers were transported to the nearby Medi Clinic for further assessment of their injuries.
No other vehicles were involved in the accident, and it is suspected that a tire may have burst which caused the truck to overturn. Police will be investigating.
