Pietermaritzburg ( Edendale ) Edendale road near Hulets Aluminum

Four people are in a serious condition while another two had sustained minor injuries, due to a collision involving a NPC traffic vehicle and a taxi on Edendale road this morning.

ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene to find a taxi and a double cab NPC traffic vehicle in the middle of the road. The driver of the taxi was in a serious condition and entrapped. The Jaws of Life needed to be used to help extricate the patient from the vehicle. The conductor who was ejected from the taxi was found lying a few meters from the scene. He had sustained serious injuries to his head and back. Advanced Life Support intervention had to be performed on both patients. They were transported to Edendale Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

The driver and passenger of the traffic vehicle had sustained serious injuries. ER24 advanced paramedic stabilised the patients before using specialised equipment to take them out of the vehicle. The other two officers had sustained minor injuries. All four were transported to Pietermaritzburg Medi-Clinic for further medical care.

It is unclear who was at fault but the necessary authorities were on the scene and would investigate the accident.
