A man sustained injuries last night when wet cement fell on him whilst he was working underground at a construction site in Rosebank.
Paramedics and rescue services attended the scene shortly after 19:00 where they found the man approximately 75 meters underground in a tunnel.
It is understood that the man was busy performing his tasks when an industrial bucket filled with wet cement opened on top of him. Co-workers explained that the man fell to the ground and complained of severe back pain.
The man could not be removed from the tunnel via the normal lift and had to be treated and stabilised in the tunnel. Rescue personnel from ER24 provided equipment and assisted to stabilise the patient.
A crane was used to lower another industrial bucket into the tunnel in order to hoist the man to the surface. The man was brought to the surface in a stable condition.
An ER24 ambulance was used to transport the injured construction worker to Morningside Medi Clinic.
