Five people have sustained serious injuries and another fourteen have sustained minor to moderate injuries after a taxi crashed through a Armco barrier and into a wall of a block of flats this morning in Chesterville.
ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene to find the taxi up against the wall and members of the community gather around the patients. The sliding door had been bent to help get patient out of the taxi. The five patients had sustained serious neck and back injuries and had to be placed on a specialised board before they could be moved to the ambulance. The remaining patients had suffered very minor injuries and were help to the ambulance by emergency personnel. All patients were transported to various hospital in the area for further medical care.
It is believed that the taxi had come down Ridge View road and had mechanical problems and was unable to stop. The taxi went through the intersection crashing into the Armco barrier, threw the fence and stopping into the wall of the block of flats.
