Farm Worker Crushes Foot

A twenty three year old farm worker will likely lose his right foot after an accident on a farm in Bothaville in the Free State.

The young man was allegedly working with a piece of machinery, that extracts peanuts from the ground, when he slipped and got his foot caught in the machines chains. The farmer took him to a nearby clinic where ER24 paramedics met him to transport him to an appropriate medical facility, as the clinic is not equipped with an orthopedic surgeon.

According to the paramedics that transported the man, his foot was severely crushed and deformed just above the ankle, and it is likely that it will have to be amputated.

The man was treated by an Advanced Life Support paramedic for his pain and apparent loss of blood, and was transported to the Welkom Medi Clinic for further appropriate medical management.
