Benoni – Petite Air Field

A pilot to be in his late fifties has been killed after the plane he was in crashed shortly after takeoff on the Petite air field this afternoon.

Emergency personnel rushed to the scene, where they found the wreckage of the plane just to the side of the run way. The pilot who was still entrapped inside the wreckage was assessed by paramedics but the patient had sustained severe traumatic injuries and was declared deceased on the scene.

It is believed that the pilot was a well known man in the Benoni area but the necessary authorities will investigate the cause of the accident.
