Two elderly people were injured at their residential home in Glen Marais, Kempton Park this evening.
They explained that they had not used their gas heater since last Winter, and when they turned it on this evening it exploded. The sixty one year old woman sustained burns to her face and hands, while the ninety five year old man injured his foot and singed his hair.
By the time ER24 paramedics and Fire fighters arrived on the scene, the house was well alight. The two patients received treatment on scene before being transported to a nearby hospital for further assessment. Fire fighters remained to extinguish the blaze.
It is as yet unclear as to the extent of the fire damage to the owners' possessions.
