Almost Robbed and Hijacked at the Mall

A seemingly unsuspecting civilian was out at the Lakeside Mall in Benoni when he was approached at his vehicle by three armed men.

It is believed that the car the men were in was being looked for by the police as it had allegedly been involved in other similar crimes.

All three men looked like they were in their late twenties, and it seemed that their intention was to rob and hijack the man. When the three men approached the shopper, he pulled out a weapon he held on his person and shot at the suspects. He wounded two of them in their heads. One was fatally wounded, and he was declared deceased on the scene after it was determined that he had no signs of life. The other was in a critical condition when he was transported to the Tembisa hospital by road ambulance. The third man sustained only minor injuries, and it is believed that he was taken away in the police vehicle for questioning. The man who did the shooting fortunately was uninjured, but appeared to be extremely shaken after the traumatic incident. His fate will lie in the decision made by the Benoni CBD SAPS after investigations have taken place.

No other patrons to the mall were injured, and the scene was secured by the SAPS before ER24 paramedics arrived.
