Driver Critical, Pedestrian Serious After Collision.

A 16yr female school girl is in a serious condition while the driver of the light motor vehicle was in a critical condition after a collision involving two light motor vehicles and a trailer on the R33 ( New Greytown Road ) near Mopolweni Mission.

ER24 paramedics from Pietermaritzburg arrived on the scene to find the two vehicles in the middle of the road and the trailer on the side of the road near the pedestrian who was lying on the floor. The driver of the light motor vehicle was found entrapped inside the vehicle and in a critical condition. The Jaws of Life was needed to extricate the female driver from the wreckage while advanced Life support intervention was being performed. She was stabilised further and transported to Pietermaritzburg Medi-Clinic in a critical condition for further medical care.

The young school girl who had sustained serious injuries needed advanced life support due to the injuries. She was transported to Greys Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

It is believed that a light motor vehicle pulling the trailer came out of Mopolweni Mission and was cross the R33 when the other light motor vehicle collided into the side of the trailer. The impact caused the trailer to swing around and hit the young girl who was standing on the side of the road.
