Cape Town - Motorcyclist Airlifted from Collision in Residential Area.

A motorcyclist was airlifted to hospital after a collision between a motorbike and a van on Humewood Road in the residential area of Parklands this afternoon.

The twenty-year-old man sustained suspected spinal injuries and due to his condition needed to be airlifted to hospital. The ER24-Discovery Medicopter transported him to Groote Schuur Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
The emergency medical helicopter drew quite a crowd when it landed on the scene in the residential road.
The Medicopter crew "hot loaded" the patient, this is when the patient is loaded into the helicopter with the engines running and blades still turning as it saves crucial time.

The landing zone for the helicopter was secured by local armed response companies, police and the Fire Department.

The exact details around the collision between the motorbike and van were unknown.
