Road Worker Killed

A 55yr old road worker was killed after been knocked down by a truck on the R56 just outside Richmond this morning.

ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene to find the man lying on the side of the road with his fellow workers around him. The patient was assessed and found that he had sustained a fatal head injury and was declared deceased on the scene. The driver of the truck who had sustained minor injuries was transported to Pietermaritzburg Medi-Clinic for further medical care.

It is unclear how the incident took place but it is believed that the R56 towards Pietermaritzburg narrows from a two lane to a one lane stop and go due to construction work. The Delivery vehicle was going through the area and somehow the road worker got hit by the truck causing him to bounce back into another vehicle on the side of the road.

The necessary authorities were on the scene and would be investigating the incident further.
