Four commuters have sustained serious injuries while another sixteen have sustained minor to moderate injuries after two taxi’s were involved in a collision on the M4 South Bound near the old airport this evening.
ER24 along with other emergency personnel arrived on the scene to find that one taxi had rear ended another taxi in the far right hand lane of the highway. Four patients had sustained possible neck and back injuries and were passengers from the taxi that had rear ended the other vehicle. The remaining sixteen were treated for minor to moderate injuries to their legs and arms. All patients were treated and stabilised on the scene before being removed to various hospitals in the greater Durban area.
Traffic was severely affected in this area. Traffic was backlog all the way to quality street, making it very difficult for emergency personnel to get to the accident scene.
All necessary authorities were on the scene and would be investigating the incident further.
