Pietermaritzburg ( Central ) Commercial and Boom street at 11h30 on the 6 August 09

One person is serious and another person has been treated for minor injuries after a collision this morning on Commercial Street. ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene, they found three vehicles had been involved in the collision all one behind each other and all in the middle lane. Paramedics were directed to an elderly couple who were from the front vehicle. They were slightly shaken up but felt fine to go though to there own doctor for a check up. The driver of the middle vehicle was found seated in the passenger seat and rather confused. He was treated for possible head and neck injuries. ER24 paramedics had to stabilise his neck and back before they could move him to the ambulance. He was transported to hospital in a serious but stable condition to Medi Clinic for Further treatment. The driver of the other vehicle was treated for minor injuries and was taken to hospital for further treatment.

It is believed that the first two vehicles were stationary at the robots when the third vehicle collided into the back of the bakkie.

RTI were in attendance and had blocked off two lanes for emergency personal to work safely at the accident scene.
