Cape Town [Blackheath] Van Riebeeck Road on 06 August 2009 at 10h35

Two people were injured when a car hit a truck at the intersection of Van Riebeeck Road and Buttskop Road in Blackheath this morning.

The male driver of the car sustained moderate injuries and was taken by ER24 ambulance to a nearby hospital. A female that was in the front passenger seat was trapped in the vehicle and needed to be extricated by rescue crews.

Rescue crews from Metro Rescue and the Fire Department had cut off the roof of the vehicle in order to extricate the patient. The lady sustained serious injuries but was in a stable condition, she was transported by Metro EMS ambulance to a nearby Hospital.

Van Riebeeck Road in the direction of Kuilsrivier was closed while rescue crews worked on scene, traffic was diverted down Buttskop Road.
