Durban ( Central ) CNR of Stanger and Ordinace Street at 05h30 on the 20 August 09

A taxi driver is in a critical condition this morning after the taxi he was driving in collided into a light pole. ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene to find the taxi had climbed the pavement and was resting up against a pole. the driver at the time was still inside the taxi and was entrapped.

Advanced Life Support intervention had to be performed before the Fire Department could use the Jaws of Life to extricate the man from the vehicle. He had suffered serious injuuries and was transported to a near by hospital in aserious but stable condition.

It is believed that the driver tried to turn into Ordinance Road but lost control on the a wet road and the vehicle veered across the four lanes and crashed into the light pole. The taxi was empty at the time of the accident.

Metro Police, Fire Department and SAPS were in attendence.
