FOURWAYS [ Johannesburg North ] R511 at Indaba Hotel on 4 August 2009 at 06:25

A lady, believed to be in her early 30's, was killed this morning when she was apparently dragged and killed by a taxi on the R511.

Paramedics from ER24 and Life Fourways rushed to the scene and found the woman lying on the side of the road. On further assessment they found that the woman was barely breathing and paramedics had to initiate advanced life support in order to try and save her life.

The woman deteriorated very quickly and paramedics initiated CPR on the scene when she started to show no signs of life.

Emergency workers tried for almost an hour to resuscitate the seriously injured woman, but there was nothing that they could do more for her. She was later declared dead on the scene.

The woman sustained multiple fractures and possibly major internal injuries.

It is understood from bystanders on the scene that the woman was waiting for a taxi when another taxi collided with her and dragged her for a few meters.

The woman could not be identified on the scene and the incident was handed over to the Johannesburg Metro Police Department for further investigation. The driver of the taxi was questioned by Police on the scene.

The Lonehill Fire Department also attended the scene.
