Durban ( Westville ) N3 East Bound between Spine Road and Spaghetti Junction at 17h00 on the 5 August 09

Three people have been injured this afternoon after ther car they were travelling in rolled on the freeway. When ER24 and Discovery Medicopter Ground Support Unit arrived on the scene, they found a BMW sedan in the centre medium. By looking at the damage, the vehicle had rolled numerous times before coming to a halt up against the barrier. Three people were found outside the vehicle a good few meters from the car. A female who was found further from the car was treated for possible neck, back and head injuries. ER24 Advanced Life Support paramedic Emma Boreham had to give the patient analgesic medication before they could move the patient to the ambulance. The patient was transported to Life Entabeni Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

The remaining patients were treated for minor to moderate injuries but were treated for possible serious injuries as paramedics were concerned that all three patients were ejected from the car. They were transported through to a near by provincial hospital for further treatment.

The cause of the accident is unclear as the driver is unsure how the car left the road and rolled out of control. Traffic was severely affected as it was peak hour traffic and rubber necking was done on either side of the freeway.

EMRS, Fire Department, Metro Police and SAPS were in attendance.
