Pietermaritzburg ( Central ) 550 Berg Street at 13h30 on the 17 September 09

A 6yr old boy is in a critical condition and may even lose his arm after a hit and run accident in Berg Street this afternoon. ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene and found the young boy lying in the middle of the road.

Members of public had gathered around to help protect him from any approaching cars. ER24 paramedics had to perform Advanced Life Support on the boy and rushed him through to a local hospital in a critical condition.

It is believed that the young boy crossed the road and was hit by a VW golf; the driver drove off and left the young boy lying in the road.

Thanks to the quick response of Pietermaritzburg Traffic Department, a suspect has been arrested and they will be continuing their investigation.
