A normal Sunday drive ended a lot of motorist turning around and heading home after a truck over turned on the M13 Pietermaritzburg bound between the 2nd Hillcrest off ramp and Shongweni on ramp this morning.
ER24 and VEMA arrived on the scene to find an articulated truck carrying rolls of metal lying on its side, completely blocking off the road to traffic. The driver was found lying on the floor after he was pulled out of the cabin by members of public. The patient had sustained a head injury and possible neck and back injuries.
The passenger who was found walking around on the scene was treated for minor injuries. Both patients were stabilised and transported to RK Khans Hospital for further medical care.
It is believed that the driver lost control due to mechanical problems and was unable to control the truck around the bend.
Metro Police had to close off the M13 just before Hillcrest and diverted traffic through Hillcrest until the cleanup operation was done
