A truck driver to be in his late thirties is in a serious condition after the truck that he was in rolled and caught a light on the R617 near Nandi Hill in the vicinity of Boston Bulwer this morning.
ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene and found the driver being treated by the local government service. The driver had sustained a possible broken leg and multiple lacerations. He was placed on a drip and given fluid to help with any blood loss that may have happened. Advanced life support intervention was also performed on the patient before he was transported to Pietermaritzburg Medi-Clinic in a serious but stable condition.
It is believed that the driver started to have mechanical problems with the truck that was carrying maize meal. He lost control on the bend and rolled the truck, this caused the vehicle to catch alight. Maize meal could be seen strewed across the R617 leading up to the truck.
The necessary authorities were on the scene and would be investigating the incident.
