Fifteen commuters have sustained serious injuries after the taxi they were travelling in over turned on the N3 north bound near Peacevale this morning.
ER24 arrived on the scene to find the taxi lying on its roof and blocking the emergency and far left hand lane of the freeway. The commuters had already climbed out of the taxi by the time emergency personnel had arrived on the scene and were found either seated or lying on the floor.
The fifteen patients were all treated for possible neck and back injuries. One patient had sustained a possible broken leg and arm. All the patients were stabilised on the scene and transported to various hospitals for further medical treatment.
It is believed that the taxi that was travelling towards Hammersdale at the time of the accident, had mechanical problems while coming around the corner. The driver lost control and rolled the taxi.
RTI and Fire Department were on scene and would investigate further into the cause of the accident.
