Western Cape [Keurbooms Heights] on 26 July 2009 at 17h05

Fourteen people have died and one person is in a serious condition after a collision allegedly involving two cars on the N2 between Plettenberg Bay and The Cracks at Keurbooms Heights earlier this evening.

Thirteen people were dead on arrival of emergency services, another person died in an ambulance on the way to hospital. The only survivor of the collision was taken by ER24 ambulance to Knysna Provincial Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

It is alleged that the two vehicles, an Audi and a VW Polo, collided head on. The majority of the patients were still trapped in their respective vehicles, the Audi was alight on arrival of emergency services.

The police were in attendance and are investigating the incident. ER24, Metro EMS, Metro Rescue, Fire Department, Baycare and Traffic services were all in attendance.
