Durban ( Pinetown ) M13 Fields Hill East bound near Pioneer Road at 06h20 on the 17 July 09

Eight people were injured this morning and another seven were stranded after the taxi they were travelling in was involved in a collision. When ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene, they found the taxi in the centre medium with the front end into the bank of the freeway. The patients were found lying outside of the taxi and walking around. Emergency personal started to treat the patients for various injuries. One patient had suffered a broken arm, while another six were complaining of severe pain to the neck and back region. They were all stabilised on scene before been transported to various hospitals in the area that could help with further care. The remaining commuters were examined but refrained from going to hospital.

It is unclear how the accident occurred as there is only one vehicle involved this collision. What is believed to have happened is that the driver may have come around the corner to fast and lost control and slammed into the embankment in the centre medium.

Traffic was affected as only one lane of the two lane highway was open.

Metro police, Fire Department, EMRS and VEMA were in attendance.
