One person is dead, another two people are in a serious condition. Another five people have sustained minor to moderate injuries. A taxi has crashed into the front doors of Edgars in West street, leaving a mass of destruction in its path.
The driver of the taxi who still had his lolly pop in his mouth was declared deceased by emergency personnel on the scene. He had sustained a fatal gun shot wound to his body. Two workers from the store who were caught in the cross fire are in a serious condition. they had sustained multiple gun shot wounds and need to be stabilised by ER24 Advanced Life Support paramedics.
Both patients were transported to a near by hospital for further medical treatment. Another worker from the store and five other members of public have been stabilised and taken to hospital for further medical treatment. It is believed that the five other injured were hit by the taxi when it came through the doors.
The reason for the taxi driver to drive through the store is unclear, even the shooting has left people puzzled. SAPS, Metro Police and Fire Department were on scene and will be investigating. The scene is still chaotic at the moment as members of public are trying to see the taxi inside the store. Metro police have closed West street.
