One person died and another was injured in a head-on collision between a truck and a car on the West Coast Road, at the Atlantic Beach turn-off, in Melkbosstrand.
The car caught alight as a result of the collision with the driver still inside the vehicle, it is however believed that the person died on impact. The body of the driver was badly burnt so the gender could not be confirmed but according to witnesses it is believed that was a female.
The driver of the truck sustained minor injuries and was taken to Milnerton Medi-Clinic for further treatment.
The R27 was closed in both directions while police investigated the circumstances around the incident.
