Cape Town [Lansdowne] Lansdowne Road on 20 October 2009 at 18h30


At around 18h30 this evening paramedics from ER24 and Life A.S.U. responded to an incident involving a taxi on Lansdowne Road, near Wetton Road, in Lansdowne.

On arrival of the paramedics a Toyota Hi Ace taxi was found lying on its side in the road. A light motor vehicle on the scene also appeared to have been involved in the incident.

Paramedics treated thirteen patients for moderate to severe injuries. The patients were taken by ER24 and Metro EMS ambulances to various nearby hospitals for further treatment.

The cause of the incident is unknown at this stage but police are investigating the matter. The road was closed in both directions while emergency services worked on scene. Traffic officials and the Fire Department were also in attendance.
