Woman Airlifted After Being Knocked Down

It seems that the fifty eight year old woman was attempting to cross the N14 highway into the Diepsloot informal settlement on her way home when she was knocked by a passing car.

The woman was flung almost ten meters, coming to rest in the fast lane of the highway. The driver of the Land Cruiser that knocked the woman, stopped in front of her to shield her from possibly being run over by another passing car.

When paramedics arrived, they activated the ER24 Discovery Medicopter to the scene to assist them with rapid transportation of the patient to a medical facility. She had suffered quite a severe head injury, and paramedics had to bandage her head in order to stop the bleeding. They also treated the woman for a broken ankle, and suspected internal injuries. The woman was placed on manual ventilation before being airlifted to a Johannesburg hospital.

The woman's concerned daughter-in-law arrived on the scene, and made her way to the hospital to accompany the woman.

The traffic was severely affected on the N14 southbound, many bystanders came out of their homes to watch the events. There were even a number of motorists that pulled over on the busy highway to watch the proceedings. Fortunately the SAP were there to assist with the safety of the scene, as well as traffic control.

The driver of the Land Cruiser was uninjured, and waited on the scene and offered his help until the patient was removed

Hilux Rolls After Side Impact

A Hyundai sedan collided into the side of a Toyota Hilux double cab bakkie at the corners of Northcoast and Rinaldo roads in Durban. It seems that one of the vehicles was turning into the lane when the collision occurred.

The impact caused the Hilux to roll, but the driver was fortunately uninjured in the collision, and after being assessed by paramedics, said that he would prefer to go to his private doctor at a later stage if the need arose. The Hyundai  moderately damaged in the front, but only the driver's door would open. The male driver of the vehicle sustained only a small amount of abrasions, and also refused transportation by ambulance to hospital.

The woman who was sitting in the passenger seat was unable to get out of the vehicle, and was complaining of neck and back pain. The Fire and Rescue services had to bring the Jaws of Life, in order to cut away at the metal to remove the patient from her vehicle. The process took approximately twenty minutes, and the woman remained stable and alert throughout.

ER24 paramedics placed the woman onto neck and back stabilising equipment and transported her to hospital for further assessment and treatment.

18 Wheeler Kills Cyclist

ER24 paramedics suspect that the cyclist may have been a homeless man, as the basket in front of his bicycle seemed to hold all of his worldly possessions. They were strewn across the road following the accident.

An 18 wheeler truck, travelling on the main road between Meyerton and Heildelburg, about five kilometers outside of Meyerton, collided with the cyclist causing the tragic event.

The man who appeared to be in his fourties sustained multiple broken bones, and severe fatal injuries after an 18 wheeler truck knocked him off his bicycle. It is still unclear who was at fault when the collision occurred.

Unfortunately there was nothing further that could be done for the man in order to spare his life, and he was declared deceased on the scene.

The driver of the truck was left uninjured, but he was clearly concerned about the events that had taken place.

The police were on scene to take statements for investigation.

Man Shot In Home

The family of four is believed to have moved in to the complex in Honeydew, Roodepoort, in February of this year, and this mornings events would have been a shock to anyone.

The fifty two year old father of the house said that he woke up when there was a noise near the bed. As he opened his eyes, he made out four unknown males standing in his room. He then let out a scream which must have given the men a fright, and one of them who was holding a gun, let out a shot, after which is seems that they ran away from the scene.

He sustained a wound to the front of his lower chest, and another lower down on his back, almost in the middle. When ER24 paramedics were assessing him, he was in a stable condition, but was complaining of severe pain. He was then given a dose of medication to ease the pain, as well as a drip for possible blood loss that he may have suffered.

The man also explained that he was immediatedly worried about his family, as his two daughters were also asleep in adjacent rooms. The women, believed to be in their early twenties, were left physically unharmed, but visibly shaken by the incident. The man's wife was also on the scene as paramedics treated the man, and she too remained unharmed.

Fortunately the man's condition remained stable, and he was alert and orientated throughout. He was handed over to a Johannesburg Hospital staff for further assessment and treatment.

The Honeydew SAP were on the scene to collect evidence for investgation purposes. It also seems that the criminals managed to make off with an unknown number of valuables.

Woman Killed On Her Way Home

The woman, who is believed to be in her late thirties, was severely injured after a bakkie collided with her scooter at the corners of Milton and Hamilton roads in Goodwood, Cape Town West Metro area.

Paramedics responded to the call after the towing services heard the collision and rushed to the scene. Initially, the driver of the bakkie sped away from the scene, but later returned to face the awaiting police. He had suffered no physical injuries.

Assessment were made on the woman immediately, who's body was clearly severely broken following the accident. There was nothing further that could be done for her, and she was tragically declared deceased.

Paramedics on the scene noted that some of her belongings had fallen out of her bag after the crash, and they linked her to her workplace as one which they recognise in the community. They were further saddened by this, and will contact her family members to break to them the devastating news.

The SAP will be questioning the driver of the bakkie, and investigating the accident.

Mother And Four Daughters Injured In Collision

ER24 paramedics were called to Nelson Mandela Drive in Bloemfontein around lunch time, for an accident that had taken place at the intersection with Jan Spies street. When they arrived on scene they noted that two vehicles had collided, one of them a Toyota Avanza and the other a BMW sedan.

The Toyota was resting up against a lamp post in the center island of the road, while the BMW was in the far right hand lane. The Toyota was severely damaged in the front, and all the airbags had deployed. It seems that the BMW was turning into the road when the Toyota collided into the rear side of it.

A mother and her four young daughters, aged between three and thirteen were the occupants of the Toyota, while the BMW had a single occupant, a seventy-four year old woman who was the driver.

One of the children in the Toyota was in a serious condition, the three year old girl was treated for a suspected head injury, and she had quite a large bruise on her forehead. She was also in a state of confusion, and her level of conscious was decreasing. Her sisters and her mother all sustained minor injuries, including multiple soft tissue injuries, abrasions and bruises. They were all treated for shock, consoled by the emergency personnel as they were all understandably in tears, and transported to hospital for further assessment.

The elderly woman in the BMW had a five centimeter deep cut on her forehead, but was otherwise only visibly shaken. She too was transported to hospital for a checkup.

The necessary authorities were on scene and would investigate the exact causes of this unfortunate event.

Truck Accident Leaves Three Serious.

A truck driver, a driver of the light motor vehicle and his passenger have sustained serious injuries after a runaway truck collided into the light motor vehicle and another truck on the N3 North bound near the Chatterton off ramp this afternoon in Pietermaritzburg.

ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene, to find an articulated truck near the off ramp with the side of the trailer ripped apart. Another truck was found partially down an embankment with the driver a few meters away. Further up the road was a light motor vehicle on its roof in the centre medium. Both occupants were found seated on the side of the road.

The driver of the second truck that had gone down the embankment had sustained serious leg trauma and possible neck and back injuries. Advanced life support intervention was performed in order to try save the leg. He was stabilised and transported to Pietermaritzburg Medi-Clinic.

The driver of the light motor vehicle had sustained possible concussion; both driver and his passenger were treated for neck and back injuries due to the mechanism of impact. Both were transported to Pietermaritzburg Medi-Clinic for further medical care.

It is believed that the articulated truck travelling down the N3 towards Pietermaritzburg may have had mechanical problems. The driver lost control, crashing into the back of the light motor vehicle, which rolled before going through the centre medium. The articulated truck then went onto oncoming traffic and side swiped the truck that was travelling up the N3 towards Hilton.

The freeway was closed to traffic while emergency personnel and other authorities were busy on the scene.

Collision Leaves Driver Serious.

A driver is in a serious condition after crashing his car into the side of a taxi on the M19 Pinetown bound just past Mount Batten Drive this morning.

Emergency personnel arrived on the scene to find the light motor vehicle in the right hand lane of the highway with the drive still inside the car, while the taxi was found a few meters away in the centre medium. The driver of the taxi was also found seated behind the wheel.

The driver of the light motor vehicle had sustained serious chest injuries and possible neck and back injuries. Advanced Life Support intervention was performed on the patient. The patient was placed on a drip and given analgesic medication before being taken out of the vehicle. The man was stabilised further before being transported by road to a nearby hospital for further medical care.

The driver of the taxi sustained minor injuries and was transported to Addington Hospital for a general check up.

It is believed that the driver of the light motor vehicle was travelling to work in the direction of Pinetown when the taxi did an illegal turn in the highway, causing the driver of the light motor vehicle to crash into the taxi side on. The necessary authorities were on the scene and would be investigating the incident further.

Seven Injured In Collision.

Seven people have been injured after a taxi and light motor vehicle collided on the R102 and Queen Nandi Drive intersection this morning.

ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene to find a BMW had crashed into the side of a taxi in the intersection. The driver and passenger of the light motor vehicle had sustained serious injuries and needed specialised equipment to help protect their backs before they could be removed from the vehicle. The driver and four passengers from the taxi had sustained minor injuries. All patients were stabilised and transported to a nearby provincial hospital for further medical care.


It is believed that the light motor vehicle was going through the intersection when the taxi did a illegal u turn in the intersection, causing the driver to slam into the side of the taxi.

Primary School on Fire

Numerous classrooms were guttered this evening when a fire broke out at a primary school in Sullivan Street, Van der Bijl Park shortly before 21:00.

An off duty ER24 paramedic explained that he was on his way home when he noticed a cloud of smoke coming from the building. The paramedic investigated and found that a lapa on the school ground was well alight as well as adjacent classrooms.

The ER24 Contact Centre notified the Van der Bijl Park fire of the emergency and they quickly responded to the scene. An ER24 medical unit was also dispatched to the scene.

Fire fighters on the scene tackled the blaze which quickly spread into the classrooms. It is not clear where or how the fire started.

People from nearby areas flocked to the scene when they noticed the smoke and the emergency vehicles.

Medical units stood by on the scene to provide assistance to the fire fighters. Fortunately no one was injured in this incident.
